Course objectives
ICT yields the opportunity to enhance strategic leadership and create high quality information systems. ICT also introduces other vulnerabilities and threats. An organization with badly designed or ill-managed ICT and information systems is running a big risk. ICT-governance has become a major topic. In this course we investigate how scientific research and professional guidance tries to find the answer to two major questions. The first question i show the risks can be managed in such a way that ICT can contribute in an optimal way to exploit the strategic potential and create an efficient working environment, The second question is how the auditor, who is charged with auditing the ICT-governance system, can make use of the ICT-opportunities. At the end of the course students will have acquired insights into the features of ICT-governance, strategic alignment, risk management, organizational controls, internal controls (development and processing), security, legal aspects (privacy, contracts, insurance) and auditing. The student will be able to apply the CobIT-methodology, use audit software (ACL), design creative solutions for ICT-governance, audit and security problems and use the results of recent scientific papers (continuous auditing e.g.)
