- Course objectives
- The aim of the course English Conversation is to renew and deepen basic students' knowledge and skills in the use of the English language and at the same time also unify students' knowledge and skills so that they are ready for its development in the area of the business English. The content of the course English Conversation involves revision and extension of vocabulary and knowledge of English grammar with an emphasis on practical application in normal social conversational situations in which students may find themselves in private and especially in working life.
- Syllabus
- 1. Food and restaurants (Present simple and continuous; Action and non-action verbs; Talking about eating habits).
2. Sports (Past tenses: simple/continuous/perfect; When you hear the final whistle (paragraph gap - fill); Talking about sports).
3. Family and personality (Future forms: going to/will/shall; We are family (predictions); Useful language for describing people).
4. Money (Present perfect and past simple; My life without money (predictions, WH questions, phrasal verbs); Money questionnaire).
5. Holidays (Strong adjectives; Present perfect continuous).
6. Transport (Comparatives and superlatives; Race to the sun; A journey from London to France (numbering activities)).
7. Modern manners - mobile phones (Must, have to, should (obligations); Culture shock).
8. Judging by appearances - describing people (Must, may, might, can't (deduction); Describing people: look or look like?).
9. Success and failure (Can, could, be able to (ability and possibility); Never give up (pair work, chart completion)).
10. Back to school, education (1st conditional and future time clauses + when, until; Talking about education).
Revision - vocabulary, grammar, social English, reading and comprehension check.
