Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the fundamentals of intellectual property rights. The students will get familiar with the definition of key concepts and rules related to intellectual property rights, both as an overview and in detail in the various areas of intellectual property rights. The emphasis is put on copyright, design right, patent right, trademark right and geographical indications and designation of traditional origin. The students will also get familiar with possible ways of enforcing intellectual property rights.

1. Introduction to intellectual property rights
2. Overview and the nature of the rights, principles, taxonomy, history
3. Exercise of intellectual property rights
4. Copyright
5. Copyright and related rights, collective rights management, employee work and collective work
6. Intellectual property rights in the information society, protection of computer programs and databases
7. Right to industrial designs
8. Patent right and the right to utility models
9. Trademark rights
10. Right to geographical indication and designation of traditional origin
11. Enforcement of intellectual property rights 1
12. Enforcement of intellectual property rights 2, law violations and criminal protection
The course is based on the information-receptive method and the method for problem of interpretation. The dialogue methods and the demonstration methods are also used.
