The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the subject English 1-A2 is to refresh and deepen basic students' English language skills and English use abilities and at the same time to link the skills and abilities, so that the students will be prepared to extend them to the area of business English.
Syllabus
  • 1. a) Word order in questions ( W questions ?)
    b) Present continuous versus present simple
    c) Classroom language
    d) Family and personal adjectives ( describing yourself and your relatives)
    2. a) Prepositions of place (behind, between, in front of ?)
    b) At the airport ( check in, ?)
    c) Going on holidays and different means of transport + advantages and disadvantages
    3. a) Past simple - regular and irregular verbs
    b) Past continuous - introduction and usage
    c) Past simple versus past continuous
    d) Prepositions of time and place ( at, on, in )
    4. a) So, because , but and although and their position in sentence and difference in meaning
    b) At the conference hotel - useful vocabulary building
    c) Describing a photo and creating a story - using present and past tense
    5. Revision - vocabulary, grammar, social English, reading and comp. check
    6. a) Future arrangements - going to and present continuous for future
    b) Predictions, promises, decisions and offers for the - will, will not , won´t
    c) Look after, look for, look at
    7. a) Opposite verbs, verbs + prepositions
    b) At a restaurant
    c) Writing and informal letter or email as a mean of communication
    8. a) Present perfect simple- positive and negative sentence, questions
    b) Present perfect simple- never, ever, yet, just, already
    c) Present perfect simple versus past simple
    9. a) Opposite adjectives
    b) Comparatives and superlative of regular adjectives
    c) Comparatives and superlative of irregular adjectives
    d) Describing where you live
    10. a) Clothes - What are you wearing vs what do you wear
    b) Verb patterns - do the housework, make the tea ...
    c) Time expressions - waste time, have time, spend time...
    11. a) Asking for information - excuse me, can you please tell me...
    b) Directions - turn left, go straight up ...
    12. Revision - vocabulary, grammar, social English, reading and comprehension check
    13. Credit test (UNIT 1-4 plus thematic activities)

Teacher's information
Essays and Reading - dates, conditions:
Topics for essays, dates for their submission, and texts for Reading are given to students by the teacher.
Topics for essays will be placed in STAG by the teacher, and students will be able to register for one of them within the given period.
Passing the subject:
Written form - final and progress test: testing knowledge of vocabulary, language structures and grammatical features.
Oral form - final oral examination: Students must prove to be able to react correctly in situations based on the covered topics and to react on questions of the examiner.
