Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the background and introduction to the study of the issue of the particular areas of management, which assumes further development in special disciplines of the study programme of individual fields of study (part 1). The intention is to explain by means of 12 lessons in the form of two-hour lectures the basic concepts, development and ideas about management (introduction), the nature and approaches to management planning, function and way of organizing, nature and function of decision-making as the basis of the manager's job, and leadership in the context of management as a way of access to management and management control. The following approaches are discussed during the course - strategic management, crisis management, change and innovation management, human resources management (personnel management), time management, operational and process management. The seminars are focused on elucidating and practical training of the key management skills, assessment of abilities and preconditions of students by selected diagnostic tests - all with regard to the work experience in enterprises and institutions and requirements for its progress and outputs.

    1. Introduction to management
    - The concept of management, development of management, management - science, theory, practice, management development of the 20th century, management of today and the past, development of the management theory, leaders and management.
    2. Planning
    - The nature and meaning, foundations, functions, tools and techniques of planning, corporate plan, production plan and inventory management
    3. Organizing
    - Function, organizational project, organizational structure, nature, creating of organizational units, types of organizational structures and their division, increasing of organizational performance, identity of the organization, restructuring and revitalization.
    4. Decision-making
    - Decision-making - nature of managerial work, managerial decision-making, information management in the decision-making process, decision-making by means of committees and groups.
    5. Management
    - Management and leadership, role of the manager, managerial career, nature of management and leadership, managerial behaviour and efficiency, development of the organizational and managerial efficiency.
    6. Controlling
    - Managerial control, controlling system and process, control basics, control techniques.
    7. Operational management
    - Operational management, value chain management.
    8. Communication
    - Communication and information transfer, communication style, communication skills, negotiation.
    9. Human Resources Management
    - Management of human resources, personnel selection, behaviour basics, manager profile, managerial career.
    10. Time management
    - Time management, time management of the manager and management subjects, self-management.
    11. Strategic management
    - Strategic management, organizational targets, strategies, tactics and projection planning, strategy typology.

Teacher's information
Credit: presentation of a recent event (PowerPoint), essay (personal career plan), presentation of assigned case studies, min. 75% attendance, gaining min.60 points
Exam: elaboration of the Time Management of a work day, reading reflection (book chosen by the student), 2 essays 10pages each on the topic covered during the lectures (13), oral exam - 2 questions based on the course programme.
