Course objectives
The aim is to improve students' German language skills.
Syllabus
  • Content:
    1. Getting acquainted with the textbook, introducing the term "business German", practical use and importance of business German. Articles and lessons from unit 1.
    2. The issue of business correspondence. Importance and influence of advertisement. Article Möbel nach Maß.
    3. Outer form of a business letter. Characteristics of a letter, fax, e-mail.
    4. Demand and the response to it. Price lists, catalogues, samples, prospects. Article Neues in der Firma.
    5. Communication styles. Differences in communication of men and women in every-day work life. Misunderstandings in communication.
    6. Extension of the terminology (Textbausteine lesson 3), translation and additional exercises.
    7. Supply and the response to it. Article Ein Industriezweig mit Perspektive.
    8. Extension of the terminology (Textbausteine lesson 4), translation and additional exercises.
    9. Delivery conditions. Comments to graphs/diagrams. The terms "dumping price, boom", etc.
    10. Payment conditions. The terms Skonto, Akkreditiv, etc. Article Ungünstige Zahlungsbedingungen.
    11. Order. World currencies. Euro.
    12. Extension of the terminology (Textbausteine lesson 6). Summary of the study. Revision and consolidation of the study.

Requirements for passing:
Ability to write business letters in the frame of discussed topics.
Knowledge of the particular vocabulary from lessons 1-6 and its application in translation exercises and during communication.
Requirements for students with individual study plan:
The same as for other study forms.
