Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to guide the students through the requirements and rules of written theses according to the generally accepted standard and MVSO standard. The contents of the seminar is focused on general methodology as well as principles of processing a Bachelor´s thesis according to the internal regulation of MVSO. The completion of the course is a necessary prerequisite for successful processing and completion of the Bachelor´s thesis, the defense of which is a part of the final state examination. Students will learn how to work with scientific resources and use generally accepted principles when writing theses.
Syllabus
  • 1. Work schedule. Work plan. Ethical and legal aspects related to written theses. Choice of topic, meaning and objectives of the thesis.
  • 2. Using literature sources (primary and secondary sources). Using electronic sources, scientific databases.
  • 3. Citations and paraphrases. Citation standards. Bibliographic citation. Contents, form, and structure of citations.
  • 4. Basic Methodology: objective, basic set, selective set, type of selection.
  • 5. Basic Methodology: qualitative and quantitative research, possibilities of data collection, basic evaluation and processing of data.
  • 6. Structure of the thesis main body. Introduction, the theoretical part, the practical part, conclusion. Graphic layout of the text – font, page numbers, formatting, editing of tables and graphs.
  • 7. Basics of typography.
  • 8. Preparation for the thesis defense – a presentation, reasoning.
  • 9. Presentations of bachelor´s theses of the students according to this outline:
  • 1. Thesis title.
  • 2. Description of the issue being solved.
  • 3. Thesis objective.
  • 4. Summary of the current state of or knowledge on the issue: - Research problem.
  • - Research question/s.
  • - Hypotheses.
  • 5. Work procedure, planned methods.
  • 6. Estimated usage of results.
  • 7. Minimum of 5 sources to be used, presented according to the citation standard.

Assessment methods
Course credit: active participation in seminars (80% of the overall grade), seminar work (aim and methodology of bachelor thesis), presentation of the rationale for the student’s bachelor ‘s thesis, interview on the topic of „methodology of the student’s bachelor’s thesis.
