Course objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarise students with principles of professional managerial communication and to develop their active communication skills by means of active exercises. The student learns to perceive communication as a process they are able to control and to influence all its phases – to effectively convey information, to speak in order to impress the other person, to perceive feedback from them and to achieve their goal in a business negotiation.
Syllabus
  • 1. Communication process, structure of a communication process.
  • 2. The role of information transmitter. The role of information receiver. Transmission reference frame.
  • 3. Listening techniques, empathic listening. Questioning techniques, question types, sequences of questions.
  • 4. Assertiveness – basic rules, manifestations of aggression, manifestations of passivity, assertive laws, assertive skills.
  • 5. Conducting a business meeting, interview structure. The rules of customer approach in a face-to-face negotiation.
  • 6. Characteristics of telephone, personal and written communication.
  • 7. Specification of conflict, ways of experiencing conflict, phases of conflict development. Types of conflict.
  • 8. Approaches to interpersonal conflict solution in the working environment.
  • 9. Teamwork. Setting up a work team. The role of team members, fulfilment of team roles.
  • 10. The role of a team leader. Organization of team activities, setting goals for a team.
  • 11. Consensus, compromise – approaches to problem solving in a team.
  • 12. Presenting an idea to a group – presentation techniques. Working with body language. Working with aids.
