Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce to students the basic aspects of entrepreneurship with focus on the specifics of small and medium-sized enterprises. Furthermore, the course aims to develop students’ knowledge and skills leading to practical application of the gained knowledge in a project of establishing and managing their own business. Having completed the course, students will be able to analyse business environment in the Czech Republic and in their region, identify prospective business opportunities, create a business plan, decide on the choice of the legal status of their business, carry out the process of establishing a company, managing the company, and they will also know how to handle basic processes of strategic, financial, business, and marketing management of the company.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to entrepreneurship (history of entrepreneurship, personalities of the business world, definition of an entrepreneur, conditions for being a successful entrepreneur, psychology of entrepreneurship – an entrepreneur versus an employee, entrepreneur’s personality).
  • 2. Entrepreneurship (types and objectives of entrepreneurship, social responsibility, definition of a company, life cycle of a company, family business and succession, current situation in the business world: areas, trends and further development (Internet, B2B, etc.).
  • 3. Legal aspects of entrepreneurship (choice of the legal form of the business, legislative activities necessary to establish a business).
  • 4. A business plan (rules and opportunities for business).
  • 5. A business plan – purpose, structure and importance.
  • 6. A founder´s budget.
  • 7. Sources of funding bustiness activities.
  • 8. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs’ importance and function in an economy, support of SMEs, information websites for entrepreneurs).
  • 9. Management of business activities.
  • 10. Financial management of small and medium-sized businesses (accounting, taxes).
  • 11. Business and marketing activities.
  • 12. Regional aspects of SMEs in terms of entrepreneurship (entrepreneurship in the EU and outside the EU, competitiveness of the region).
