The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarise students with advanced techniques of editing documents in word processors and to teach them to work with information sources. After completing the course, students are able to effectively use word processors, create and graphically edit scientific texts according to typography rules and quickly format documents using routine modifications. Students will use the acquired knowledge in processing seminar papers, theses and scientific texts of a larger extent.

  • 1. History of typography, printing techniques, font development
  • 2. Logical division of scientific texts
  • 3. Building elements of a document (font properties, paragraphs, pages)
  • 4. Typesetting and its rules
  • 5. Automated typesetting procedures (styles, templates)
  • 6. Tools for document maintenance and configuration
  • 7. Typographic formatting of objects, positioning objects in a text
  • 8. Mathematical typesetting and its rules
  • 9. Typographic rules and their application in scientific texts and presentations
  • 10. Data compression, principles of lossy and lossless compression, compression efficiency, compressing archives
  • 11. Working with information sources, copyright, citations according to the standard ISO 690: 2010
  • 12. Conversion of documents into various formats, the most common graphic and text formats
