Basic work with PC, MS OFFICE environment, understanding of HW of pc operation.

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to give a basic overview of concepts in the field of computers, informatics and information technology. After completing the course, the student knows the principles of computer operation, is familiar with the hardware components of the computer, is familiar with operating systems and can select application software to solve various tasks. They can also describe the basic types of computer networks, their elements, ISO / OSI and TCP / IP models and use fundamental commands for working with networks in Windows, Linux and Mac OS operating systems. networks and perform economic calculations and graphically process them in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, can professionally edit texts in word processors. The student is familiar with basic mobile devices, knows the rules of ergonomics of working with a computer and the risks of non-compliance. Can define the concept of information system and its basic properties and describe the main registers used in the Czech Republic. The student will also get acquainted with the basic rules of security and risks of using cyberspace.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to work in the MS Office environment, understand the functioning of a PC in terms of HW and operate software suitable for his teaching needs.

  • Tutorials:
    1. Introduction, abstraction. Representation and interpretation of information.
    2. Basic principles of computers.
    3. Hardware components of the computer.
    4. Server extensions.
    5. Introduction to operating systems. Windows family, Unix family.
    6. Application software.
    7. Software licences, copyright, free software.
    8. Health protection, safety and ergonomics while working with computer.
    9. Work with Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
    10. Text editing, advanced techniques in Microsoft Word.

Teaching methods
Lectures and consultations, instructional videos. Continuously respond to the given points of the syllabus, always to the next teaching block.
Assessment methods
Form of verification of study results and other requirements for the student: Credit: attendance (min. 50% participation in tutorials), elaboration of 2 seminar papers. Exam: written exam (50% of the total evaluation), oral exam (10% of the total evaluation).
