Cílem předmětu Business English – Pre-Intermediate je zvládnutí základů obchodní angličtiny, rozšíření slovní zásoby o odbornou terminologii a získání znalostí o praxi ve firmách, kde je jednacím jazykem angličtina. Předmět buduje znalosti obchodní angličtiny, učí studenty s nimi pracovat a používat je v jednotlivých obchodních situacích. Součástí výuky je zapojení studentů do mezinárodních aktivit školy, čímž studenti získají praktické zkušenosti s organizací mezinárodních akcí (pomoc s adaptací zahraničních studentů, workshopy s mezinárodními partnerskými institucemi). Získané zkušenosti jim umožní hlouběji porozumět dané problematice, diskutovat o problémech a jejich řešeních a podporují schopnost argumentovat a pracovat v týmu.

  • 1. Companies: Company facts. Present simple. How to ask somebody to repeat information. Making introductions.
  • 2. Contacts: Describing your job and contacts. Present continuous. How to say phone numbers and spell names. Making and receiving phone calls.
  • 3. Products and Services: Past simple. How to show interest. Giving a research report.
  • 4. Visitors: Company structure. Asking questions. How to confirm information. Welcoming a visitor.
  • 5. Customer Service: Comparisons. How to ‘soften’ a message. Making and dealing with complaints.
  • 6. Employment: Present Perfect. How to avoid negative answers. Evaluating options.
  • 7. Air Travel: will/going to/present continuous. How to ask for directions. Arranging to meet.
  • 8. Orders and Deliveries: The passive. How to discuss payment terms.
  • 9. Selling and Advertising: Modal verbs. How to interrupt and avoid interruption. Controlling the discussion in meetings.
  • 10.Environment and Performance: First conditional. Giving a formal presentation and describing trends.
  • 11.Future Trends: Global issues. Future predictions. Predicting and forecasting.
  • 12.Time and Training: Second conditional. Negotiating conditions. How to give positive feedback.

Zkouška: písemná forma: průběžný test, závěrečný test (prověření znalostí slovní zásoby, použitých jazykových obratů a gramatických jevů); ústní forma: závěrečný pohovor (prokázání schopnosti studenta diskutovat o probraných tématech a adekvátně reagovat na otázky zkoušejícího); účast na mezinárodních aktivitách školy.
