Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to give an overview of principles and possibilities of a proper visualization of economical data. Students will adopt basics of data management, editing, and visualization in various software tools (both online and offline). A special attention is paid to the interpretation of visualized data. Students will be able to prepare and modify data for consequent advanced visualizations for different users. Students will be capable of handling several tools for the advanced data visualization.

  • 1. Introduction to the advanced data visualization (principles, terminology, methods, graphical outputs)
    2. Economic data sources (CZSO, Basic registers in the Czech Republic, statistical data services)
    3. Software tools for data management and visualization (online/offline/desktop tools, data formats, data import/export, data editing)
    4. Advanced visualization of economic data (graphs, charts, schemes, diagrams)
    5. Advanced visualization of economic data (infographics, posters, interactive charts and diagrams)
    6. Geovisualization of economic data (mapping applications, online tools, desktop tools, merging data, basic cartographic rules)

Assessment methods
To fulfil the course requirements, students have to create an advanced data visualization based on an assigned topic using the tools discussed during the course, and correspondence the content of which is monitored by the teacher. Specific topics and the extent will be determined by the teacher. A test based on theory will be a part of the course requirements.
