Course objectives
The aim of the course is train communication skills of the student needed for successful performance of the role of a manager. The training will be based on necessary theoretical knowledge. Through role plays, training of suitable managerial techniques for particular situations, case studies solution and interpretation of students' performance, the students will learn how to assess their actions in the role of a manager and to choose appropriate tools for different situations related to management.
Syllabus
  • Contents:
    1. Communication role of a manager - requirements for manager's communication, competences of a manager in communication, understanding the success of a manager
    2. Effect of personality on communication, social perception, social communication as a process, the selected communication theories and approaches, communication barriers and shortcomings; demands on the communication of a manager
    3. Transactional analysis principle in managerial communication, principle of mirroring; work with emotions and attitudes
    4. The principle of motivation in the communication of a manager; influencing at work.
    5. Objectives - their formulation, communication, transfer - delegating and task distribution techniques
    6. Leading to objectives, the ability to assess and motivate, performance assessment, principles of giving and receiving feedback
    7. Negotiation technique and related non-verbal and verbal communication
    8. Types of negotiation, types of negotiators, negotiation phases, empathetic approach to negotiation
    9. Technique of moderating a discussion; chairman role, moderating a debate, record of the discussion
    10. Meetings, record of a meeting, the minutes of meetings
    11. Manifestations of managers' failures in communication skills, after-effects in their performance
    12. Final presentations of the students, the technique for presenting outputs
    Within the course, the emphasis is placed on teamwork, brainstorming, role playing and solving tasks in the field. The course is linked to a comprehensive solution of the case study. Further methods used are the following: dialogue, reproductive method, the method of problem interpretation and the heuristic method.
