Course objectives
A student will acquire knowledge of the historical development of the EC/EU, particularly with regard to the circumstances of its creation and the time-changing mission. Attention will be paid to the progressive extension of the EC/EU and the associated change agenda within the remit of the European Union institutions. Furthermore, the student will learn the issues of organization of the EU and its institutions, competencies and synergies. The student will obtain knowledge of legislative procedure in the EU, including the possibility of public participation in this process and also the issues of judicial review of acts of the institutions of the EU. The student will also acquire knowledge of procedures for making the EU budget, including the allocation of its resources. Instruction will focus on the issues of the Economic and Monetary Union, the student will acquire knowledge of the method of formation and functioning of the common currency Euro and the conditions of its implementation by the member state. Finally, the student will gain knowledge of the role of the EU as an international player.

Teacher's information
The student completes two sub-tests during the course. Tests are aimed at verifying the partial acquisition of knowledge. For admission to the final oral exam students need to obtain at least 6 of 20 points from these sub-tests. Overall completion of the course is conditioned to successful completion of the oral exam.
