Course objectives
The students will learn about pricing strategies and will focus on how they are used in real businesses. The concept of a pricing strategy is based on marketing, economics, finance and accounting and in the course pricing strategies will be discusses within the framework of strategic management. The course will stress the relationship of a pricing strategy to the overall strategy of the organization. The course will also familiarize the students with the process planning and management of pricing in the conditions of uncertainty and risk, with the methods of the analysis of the factors affecting prices, with aspects of pricing and with the pricing policy in the international trade. The students will be able to define and use the pricing policy and pricing strategies. The students will learn different methods of pricing and price calculations and will learn how to implement pricing strategies in different types of enterprises, also in an international environment.

  • 1. Introduction to pricing, relationship to economics and marketing
    2. Pricing strategy and planning
    3. Pricing for new products and services, pricing for production series, model situations
    4. Price changes and pricing in the conditions of uncertainty and risk, including the determination of the impact of domestic and foreign competition, the models of return
    5. The process of forecasting prices
    6. Pricing in service organizations
    7. Prices on the international markets
    8. Economics and pricing
    9. The function of costs in pricing; the impact of logistics cost items on the level of prices; alternative sources of energy from the perspective of affordability and the level of prices from the perspective of the time dimension of costs; the optimization of cost items in relation to the processes related to the price levels in particular stages of production and services, and related also to individual differences in various fields of industry and in key service areas

    During the course, the emphasis is put on problem interpretation and the dialogue teaching methods (e.g. for the analysis and discussion of the current economic problems and their relation to pricing and the pricing policy). Further various practical methods are applied (calculation, modelling), situational and case methods.
